Working together for tourism
In a real spirit of partnership, open-mindedness and coherence, IRT benefits from the skills of elected partners, institutions and professionals working in tourism.
This includes representatives from the following :
- Regional Council, responsible for managing tourism policies,
- General Council, responsible notably for the upkeep of touristic areas (footpaths, etc) on state property using the ONF (National Forestry Commission).
- Communities of Communes or towns which carry out the Territorial Coherence Plan (SCOT), an overall plan for territories (areas for tourism, urban transport plan…). They represent all the communities of the island and have a role to play in hosting and promoting tourism via their different Tourist Offices.
- Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Reunion (CCIR) which has a prominent role in tourism as it deals with training: Le Centhor, foreign languages, the EGC. It also manages Roland Garros Airport providing tourist information, and also the Ports where cruise ships arrive. All tourism professionals are registered at the CCIR which works alongside companies in the setting up of their projects
- Chamber of Trades and Crafts, whose role in tourism is important because the handicraft sector has a very promising future. Professionals working in the handicraft sector are registered at the Chamber of Trades. It is worth noting that more and more areas of handicraft go hand in hand with tourism.
- Chamber of Agriculture, a structure which accompanies businesses in the promotion of agri-food products – and we all know just how important it is for Reunion to promote its products which are high in quality and have, in some cases, won awards for excellence. It is worth pointing out that it is thanks to the Chamber of Agriculture that Reunion Island is present at the International Agriculture Fair.
- Committees on a consultancy basis :
- the Committee for Culture, Education and the Environment, a consulting body of Région Réunion which gives advice on the region’s principle issues (such as the budget), and can be consulted regarding issues related to tourism,
- the Economic and Social Committee, a consulting body of Région Réunion which gives advice on the region’s principle issues (such as the budget), and can be consulted regarding issues related to tourism,
- and of course the representatives of tourism professionals in the following domains : Trades in the hotel industry, the Hôtellerie Créole label, catering, leisure activities in Reunion, travel agencies, airline companies, overland transport and independent tourism professionals in Reunion.
All these partners work together and must stand together for a balanced development of Reunion Island.
