Creole houses and local shops

Houses and local shops are often colourful and decorated with ornamental friezes around the roof, known as ‘lambrequin’. Because Reunion has been sensitive to architectural influences throughout the ages (colonial, Napoleonic, art deco and neo-classicism…), many various styles can be observed.
