
Connected to the Bois-Rouge factory, one of the island’s two sugar refineries, Distillerie de Savanna lets visitors in on the secrets of making rum. Depending on the time of year, visits are organised in several stages, including sugar refinery, rum distillery, and tasting session at the Tafia & Galabé shop. In the sugar season (July to December): guided visits to the Bois Rouge sugar refinery and the Distillerie de Savanna, with tasting session in the shop to round off the visit. Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Outside the sugar season (January to the end of June): guided visits to the Distillerie de Savanna and tasting session at the shop. Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations at the Tafia & Galabé reception lodge. Guided visits for groups of around 15 people, lasting about 45 minutes. Open all year round except Sundays and public holidays. For school group, group and children’s rates, please enquire. Children of 7 and over accepted. Precautions and recommendations: visit inadvisable for people subject to vertigo or serious asthma attacks. Trousers or shorts and flat-heeled shoes should be worn. Alcohol abuse is dangerous to the health – to be consumed in moderation.
